The hotel sits on a Georgian terrace overlooking Kelvingrove Park in the West End of Glasgow. It is only a short distance from Glasgow University, the Kelvin Hall Sports Arena, the imposing, red-sandstone Kelvingrove Art Gallery, and the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC).

The Argyll Hotel is housed in an attractive, terraced Georgian building, with an ivy-covered façade and hanging baskets around the entrance. The interior features all kinds of slightly kitsch Scottish touches, such as tartan curtains and wallpaper. The medium sized lobby is cosy and warmly decorated. As with the rest of the property, the 38 guestrooms are decorated in a very traditional style and one of the double rooms has a four-poster bed. They are clean and well maintained, as are the tiled en suite bathrooms. Located in the basement, but looking over the garden to the rear, Sutherlands Bar/Bistro offers a dining experience enhanced by soft lighting and an open fire. It serves lots of evocative-sounding dishes, such as pan-fried fillet of beef on haggis croutons, or lightly steamed delice of Tay salmon accompanied by a light champagne cream. The hotel can also help with theatre trips and other excursions.
